Clean Beauty Swap, Part II: Lips & Cheeks

It’s been a while since this series had the spotlight, but let’s keep trucking along, shall we? I’ve managed to swap out all of my makeup to non-toxic products, hallelujah. If you missed the first post in this series about my foundation and powder swap, check it out.

Cheeks – Blush

Prior to realizing the importance of ingredients in makeup, I was using products that a ton of gunk in it, for lack of a better word. I’ve switched over from using an Avon blush to the Beautycounter Satin Powder Blush in nectar (which I think was a spring 2018 color, so I got it on sale!).

Lips – Chapstick

Chapsticks are the things that always somehow ends up disappearing into thin air after buying them and using them basically twice. So you bet I keep finding my old Chapstick Classic sticks showing up randomly like in my car, in the pockets of my travel bags and in purses. When I saw that Classic Chapstick is a 5/10 on the EWG app (meaning not so clean), I swapped it out for Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lip Balm in peppermint, which you can actually find at Target!

Lips – Lip Gloss

Prior to swapping out my makeup, I didn’t wear lip gloss – too sticky, shimmery and pointless if you ask me. But when Beautycounter was having their winter sale, I couldn’t resist the nude lip trio for just over $30 – and I’m so glad my shopping addiction took control on this one!

Shades: Caramel (sheer honey), spice (warm neutral with gold-silver shimmer) & praline (neutral with gold multi shimmer)

Lips – Nighttime Lip Conditioner

Dry skin is a serious issue in the winter and that doesn’t exclude chapped lips. For a solid eight months, I was using the Lush Lip Service Lip Balm but I finally tossed it for the Beautycounter Peppermint Lip Conditioner, which is absolutely magical. The one thing I deduct a star for on all balms and conditioners is that you have to stick your finger into the container, germophobe over here.

Cassie Says… swapping out your makeup bag isn’t cheap and it takes some time, but it’s worth it in the long run. Invest in your health and make the clean swap to safer, better beauty! Start with some of the products that I’ve been loving and don’t forget to check out my previous post in the clean beauty series to see what foundation & powder I’ve added to my makeup bag!
